Former South African skipper Dean Elgar starred with the bat for the hosts in the ongoing Test match against India, slamming a flamboyant ton at the iconic SuperSport Park in Centurion. Opening the batting, Elgar stunned India with a fighting hundred on a track that had enough assistance for the fast bowlers.

In response to India's first innings total of 245 runs, South Africa began their innings in a disastrous fashion, losing Aiden Markram cheaply off Mohammed Siraj's bowling. However, Elgar emerged as South Africa's saviour, stitching a vital 93-run stand for the second wicket with Tony de Zorzi.

Although ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah removed De Zorzi and Keegan Petersen in quick succession, Elgar stood firmly at one end, eventually bringing up a high-class hundred against a quality opposition.

After completing his century, the gritty southpaw roared with joy, recreating David Warner's iconic leaping celebration. His valiant effort helped South Africa claim the driving seat in the high-voltage face-off.

With this century, Elgar equalled Herschelle Gibbs and Daryll Cullinan for the sixth-most Test hundreds for the Proteas in international cricket.

As of writing, South Africa are in a commanding position, placed at 183 for three in 46.1 overs, with Elgar and David Bedingham batting on 107* and 31*, respectively.
