Mere moments after KL Rahul brought up his century on the second morning of the Centurion Test, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared his admiration for the wicketkeeper-batsman.

Kaif acknowledged Rahul for leading India to recovery by overcoming overcast and seam-friendly conditions against a charged-up South African attack, amidst team’s top-order jitters. The former cricketer added that the star batter unfurled an “unforgettable innings” for his country, and urged the 31-year-old to keep answering his critics with the bat. Taking to the microblogging site, he said:

“It’s not easy to score a century at number six. Wet pitch, overcast and seaming conditions, India in trouble, wickets falling, but KL Rahul stood guard to play an unforgettable innings for his country. It’s a good thing that you always keep your mouth shut and let your bat do the talking. Your innings had patience, class; it was a proper Test innings. KL Rahul, well done yaar!”

KL Rahul bludgeoned 14 boundaries and four sixes in his 137-ball knock to top-score for India with 101 runs. His innings propelled the visitors towards a competitive 245-run total, after they had slumped to 24-3 within the opening hour of the match.
