The Welsh Fire took on the Southern Brave in the 30th match of The Hundred 2024 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. The match was abandoned due to rain, however, it was not before the players involved in the game showed their brilliance on the field.

Welsh Fire put in a massive total on the board

As far as the game is concerned, the Welsh Fire won the toss and opted to bat first. They had a stable start to their innings and hand the foundation on which their middle order batters capitalised to the fullest. Luke Well and Glenn Phillips were engaged in a partnership of 76 runs off just 30 deliveries, that helped the Welsh Fire to a massive total of 181/5 in their 100 balls.

Luke Wells played a well planned knock off 53 runs from 30 deliveries. At the other end, Glenn Phillips showed his muscles as he scored 48 runs off 19 deliveries at a strike rate of 252.64. Phillips decorated his knock with two fours and five maximums.

David Willey stuns Alex Davies with a brilliant in-swinger

The Southern Brave needed a good start to chase down the mammoth total. However, English all-rounder David Willey came out in a different mood. He sent back Alex Davies in the second delivery of the innings with a classic in-swinger.

Willey bowled a good length delivery that shaped backed into the batter viciously. Davies was left speechless to the delivery and was squared as he ended up dragging the ball onto the stumps. While it was the first shock for the Brave, Matt Henry soon sent the in-form, James Vince back to the hut putting them further on the back foot.

The Welsh Fire were way ahead in the game at this stage. However, much to the relief of the Southern Brave rain arrived and did not let the proceedings go on further. This meant that the Brave qualified for the Eliminator as they had a better NRR than the Superchargers despite having the same points.
