The highly anticipated Big Bash League matchup between Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat quickly turned into a bittersweet game for Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams.

In the first inning, Sams picked up a five-wicket haul to become the only bowler in the Thunder's franchise history to do so. His exciting milestone gave Thunder an upper hand against Brisbane Heat.

However, the tables turned when it was Sydney's turn to chase. After Alex Hales and Cameron Bancroft established a 50-run opening partnership, Heat's bowling attack triggered a middle-order collapse.

The fans had high hopes for the in-form all-rounder Daniel Sams. After Sams exhibited his prowess with the ball, it was his turn to lead his side to the finish line with the bat.

However, Spencer Johnson deceived the Australian with a bouncer. Sams tried uppercut Johnson's bouncer but found Sweepson at square third man. Sweepson didn't fumble and completed the catch to end the Aussie's stay at the crease.

Thunder Lose To Heat In A Thrilling Encounter

With that, Thunder's half the side went under the hut, and the lower order didn't make much of a difference to the total.

Eventually, the Thunder fell short of the target by 15 runs to lose yet another league-stage game. While Heats will top the table with this win, Sydney Thunder plummeted to fifth spot on the points table.

Having said that, Daniel Sams has a lot of positive takeaways to gain from this matchup. A five-wicket haul in T20 cricket is no joke. It takes intense resilience and discipline from a bowler to dominate in the shorter format.

Also, Sams, for the first time in this league, came alive with the ball. Thus, the Aussie will ride on that confidence moving forward into the ongoing BBL season.

For Thunder, Daniel Sams's return as a bowler is a promising sign. Despite the setback against the Heat, the team will continue to back the Aussie's all-round ability.
