Jasprit Bumrah, the poster boy of the Indian cricket team's pace attack, first burst into the scene in 2013 when he was picked up by the Mumbai Indians' scouting team.

Subsequently, the pacer was allowed to debut as a rookie and became an overnight sensation by clipping Virat Kohli's wicket in a game against RCB. The Indian pacer has had a stellar career so far, and is the backbone of the pace attack.

Since then, Bumrah has never looked back, and in the course of a decade, he has turned out to be India's golden arm.

Having said that, not many know that Jasprit Bumrah's rise to stardom was an arduous journey. He came from a humble family background based in Gujarat. Tragedy struck the Bumrah family when a five-year-old Jasprit lost his father.

However, defying the odds, his mother, Daljit Kaur, didn't give up and worked tirelessly to provide for her children.

Jasprit Bumrah and his mom opens up on early days struggles!

In 2019, Jasprit sat down with his mother for an exclusive interview with MITV, and the duo shared their struggling days. The mother revealed it wasn't easy to raise Jasprit and his sister as a single mother during her time. She also recalled how she was unable to provide an extra pair of shoes for her son.

“When he was five-year-old, I lost my husband. The first time when I saw him on that IPL match on TV, I couldn’t stop crying. He has seen me struggle financially and physically also,” Daljit recalled.

Jasprit Bumrah later quipped, saying that he spent his early days with only one pair of shoes and a t-shirt. He had to wash that T-shirt every day to wear it again the next day.

"After that we couldn’t afford anything. I had one pair of shoes. I used to have one pair of T-shirt. I used to wash them every day and use it again and again. So, as a child you know you hear stories that sometimes these things happen that some people come and watch you and you get picked up like this. But it actually happened,” Jasprit said.

The bowler also revealed that his journey to excellence was a fairy tale story wherein somebody saw him someday and picked him up for IPL.

"So, as a child you know you hear stories that sometimes these things happen that some people come and watch you and you get picked up like this. But it actually happened,” he added.

Daljit Kaur later breaks down in the video, sharing how she couldn't provide NIKE shoes when Jasprit needed them the most. But the young boy in the store made a pact that he would buy those one day with his own money.

Overall, Jasprit Bumrah believes that tough times make a person stronger from within, and it helps you prepare for the worst.
