Big Bash League Season 13 is currently underway in full swing as top cricketers across the globe square off in an exhilarating carnival of T20 cricket.
That being said, for the 16th matchup of the league, Brisbane Heat locked horns with Sydney Thunder at the infamous Gabba Stadium of Brisbane. Heat skipper Colin Munro won the toss and opted to bat first under the lights.
While the skipper lost his wicket early, Josh Brown and Natan McSweeney registered a 100-run partnership to get Heat back in the game. Undoubtedly, the home team was eyeing a big total. However, Thunder's Daniel Sams had other plans.
He unleashed carnage with the ball to trigger a middle-order collapse. After Brown, he dismissed McSweeney, Xavier, Spencer Johnson, and Mitchell Swepson to complete a five-wicket haul.
Daniel Sams Scripts History For Thunder
Sams, known for his left-arm fast-medium bowling and ability to contribute with bat and ball, showcased his skills in a sensational bowling spell. His five-wicket haul not only dismantled the Brisbane Heat's batting lineup but also marked a significant milestone for the Sydney Thunder franchise.
Daniel Sams became the first-ever bowler to record a five-wicket haul in the history of Sydney Thunder's existence. While Sams missed out on a hat trick opportunity, he would be extremely pleased to clip five wickets for his side. Picking up five wickets in a single innings is a rare feat in cricket and is often celebrated as a remarkable achievement.
Sams has been an economy bowler for Thunder this season but has been unable to get wickets. This performance will surely help him regain confidence for the rest of the tournament to follow.
Having said that, Heat still managed to put up a competitive total of 172 runs on board despite Sams' carnage.
The Thunder are off to a good start, and we expect a thrilling encounter to follow between the two strong sides.
