In a breathtaking display of athleticism, San Francisco Unicorns captain Corey Anderson pulled off a sensational one-handed catch at mid-off to dismiss Faf du Plessis that left fans and players alike in awe during the MLC 2024 edition challenger contest.
To book a spot in the finale of the Major League Cricket 2024 season, San Francisco Unicorns and Texas Super Kings clashed in the challenger round of the playoffs.
The Unicorns set up a 200 runs first innings total courtesy to a sensational century by Finn Allen. However, the Dallas wicket had a lot to offer to the batters and hence Texas were confident of their chances of pulling off a success chase.
Corey Anderson pulls off the sensational catch
Faf du Plessis and Devon Conway got the perfect start with a 50-run opening partnership in just 4 overs. However, with bowlers failing to put a stoppage to Texas’ carnage, Unicorns captain Corey Anderson placed a bet on himself to produce a breakthrough.
Carmi le Roux bowled a back-of-the-length delivery to Faf du Plessis that angled wide outside the off stump. Faf couldn’t reach the ball on time and slapped a shot over mid-off with the toe end of his bat.
While the ball appeared to be heading for a boundary, Corey Anderson, stationed at mid-off, stuck his left hand out and timed his jump to pluck a blinding one-handed catch.
While the ball stuck to his hand, Anderson ensured to roll a clean follow through and avoided a fumble after thudding on the ground successfully.
Corey Anderson left the commentators, his peers and the fans stunned with what could be a catch of the tournament. His extraordinary fielding effort was the only thing that could have stopped Faf’s carnage and the skipper stepped up in the field to rescue the Unicorns.
