The Big Bash League 2024-25 season is reaching its final stages. Sydney Sixers were engaged in a tough fight with Adelaide Strikers in the 35th match at Adelaide Oval Stadium. Half-century by Ollie Pope and 48 crucial runs by Alex Ross helped the Strikers put up a competitive total of 182 runs.
However, the Sixers responded well, with Steve Smith taking charge. The veteran has been in sublime form since he scored a century earlier. Against Strikers, Smith slammed 52 off just 31 balls with an impressive strike rate of 167.74.

Meanwhile, Steve Smith survived a scare during his stay on the crease, which could have resulted in a bizarre dismissal. It all unfolded with a length delivery from Henry Thornton angled into middle and leg stump line.
Smith shuffled across his stumps in the typical manner, trying a big swing across the line. However, the ball missed the bat and thudded into his thigh pad, dropping almost lifelessly near his feet. As it began rolling ominously towards the stumps, Smith reacted swiftly.
In a flash, Steve Smith acted. Eyes locked onto the ball, he pushed it away with his bat, giving it no hope of disturbing the bails. He immediately asked his non-striker end to not run for a single and took a moment to gather himself.
Meanwhile, Smith's start helped Sydney Sixers register a three-wicket victory. Lachlan Shaw scored 32 off 21 balls, whereas Ben Dwarshuis also contributed with 30 off 23 balls. The Sixers are back at the top of the table with 13 points in nine games.
