Indian captain Rohit Sharma confirmed his batting position for the impending second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test match against hosts Australia. His teammate and deputy Jasprit Bumrah, on the other hand, received a prestigious nomination by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his recent form with the ball.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest news that emerged out of Thursday, December 5.

Scott Boland Returns As AUS Confirm Playing XI

Fast bowler Scott Boland will be making his return to Australia’s Test XI for the upcoming second Border-Gavaskar Trophy match against India at the Adelaide Oval. Cricket Australia confirmed Australia’s playing XI on December 5, i.e., a day prior to the pink-ball affair. Boland will be replacing injured Josh Hazlewood in the line-up.

Star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has also been declared fit to play the all-important match, and seasoned middle-order batters Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne are set to resume Australia’s Test action to survive brief injury scares during prior training sessions. Here is a look at Australia’s entire playing XI for the Adelaide Test:

Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitch Marsh, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland.

Baroda Mount Highest T20 Total In SMAT 2024

The Baroda cricket team mounted 349-5 in 20 overs against Sikkim to record the highest-ever team total in the history of T20s, going past Zimbabwe’s two-month-old 344-4 against Gambia. For Baroda, number three batter Bhanu Punia smacked 134 unbeaten runs from just 51 deliveries with five boundaries and 15 scorching maximums. Middle-order batters Shivalik Sharma and Vishnu Solanki, along with opener Abhimanyusingh Rajput also unleashed sizzling half-centuries, while Shashwat Rawat belted 43 from 16 balls with four sixes.

Later in the match, Baroda captain Krunal Pandya (1-8), Ninad Rathva (2-14) and Mahesh Pithiya (2-17) restricted Sikkim to just 86-7 in 20 overs to secure a record 263-run win in Indore in the Group B match of the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season.

Rohit Sharma To Bat In Middle-Order In Favour Of KL Rahul

Indian captain and comeback man Rohit Sharma has confirmed that KL Rahul will continue to open the innings for Team India in the upcoming second Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval. Rahul unleashed a majestic 77 during the second Indian innings at Perth, and his 201-run opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal set up a 295-run victory for the visitors.

Captain Sharma, who missed the opening Test to be with his family, claimed that he witnessed Rahul’s batting from the sidelines and the elegant right-hander deserves a spot as an opener at this point. In doing so, the legendary Indian opener pretty much confirmed that he himself will bat in the middle-order in the impending pink-ball affair.

Jasprit Bumrah Nominated For ICC Player Of The Month

Indian vice-captain and legendary fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been nominated by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the ‘Player of the Month’ award for November 2024. A couple of weeks ago, the seasoned speedster picked up eight wickets against hosts Australia at Perth’s Optus Stadium to navigate Team India to a historic 295-run victory.

Leading the Indian team in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, Bumrah seized figures of 8-72 to win the ‘Player of the Match’ award. Pakistan paceman Haris Rauf and South African speed demon Marco Jansen were also nominated under the category. Rauf helped Pakistan script a historic ODI series win in Australia, doing so after a gap of over two decades. Jansen, on the other hand, flattened Sri Lanka in Durban during South Africa’s 233-run Test win.

Champions Trophy 2025 Meeting Postponed, Again!

The meeting between the PCB, BCCI and the ICC regarding the 2025 Champions Trophy has been postponed yet again. As per a report, the meeting was intended to take place on Thursday, December 5.

One of the primary agendas of the meeting was to determine the scheduling fate of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Originally scheduled to be held in its entirety in Pakistan, the PCB has now seemingly agreed for a hybrid model after BCCI’s reluctance of sending the Indian team owing to the prevailing geo-political tensions shared between the two countries.
