The Guyana Amazon Warriors are taking on the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the 23rd match of the CPL 2024 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
The Falcons won the toss and put the Warriors to bat first. From the beginning of the game, the pitch at Providence Stadium favoured the bowlers, and the batters struggled to get off the block.
Moeen Ali powered the Warriors to a fighting total
The Falcons dominated most of the first innings and had the Warriors in trouble at 98/6 in the 18th over. However, Moeen Ali, who was compiling his innings with great maturity and composure, turned the heat on in the next over and completely changed the complexion of the match.
Ali slammed Imad Wasim for 26 runs, propelling the team towards a respectable total. His 42 off 33 was the prime reason that the Warriors managed to post 135/7 at the end of their 20 overs.
The Falcons did not make the ideal start, as they lost their two openers early. Justin Greaves was the first wicket to fall. Gudakesh Motie dismissed him in the third over of the innings.
Azam Khan put in an acrobatic effort to dismiss Justin Greaves
While Motie's deceptive bowling was a key factor, it was Azam Khan's exceptional wicket-keeping that ended Greaves's stay in the middle. It was good length delivery that was turning away from the batter. Greaves who stepped down the track was beaten by the turn away from him.
The ball turned viciously and was going out of the keeper's reach. Azam Khan dived to collect the ball and then whipped off the bails with one hand in a swift motion, with the batter way out of the crease. The effort reminded the fans of the Indian legend MS Dhoni, who was famous for pulling off such efforts to effect near-impossible dismissals.
