The Indian team under Rohit Sharma's leadership is taking on Sri Lanka in the first of the three match ODI series at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The home team won the toss and batted first in the match. The Indian bowlers did a great job and restricted the run scoring of Sri Lanka in the initial stages. After the good start the Indian bowlers further strengthened their grip on the game as they kept on chipping away with the wickets. However, some lower-order resilience by Sri Lanka meant that they were able to put a fighting total of 230 runs on the board.

Indian openers give a strong reply to Sri Lanka

In reply, Indian openers, especially the skipper, Rohit Sharma walked out to bat with a positive attitude. He pressed the foot on the pedal from the very beginning and has got India off to a blazing start.

At the time of writing, Sharma is unbeaten on 41 off 25. During this stay in the middle, Rohit has joined an elite list of run-scorers in international cricket (across formats). He went past 15,000 runs in international cricket as an opener (when he scored 19 in this match) and currently ranks 11 in this list.

The legends of Indian cricket, Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar are present in the top ten of this list. Besides the two Indians, there are some elite names in the list like that of Sanath Jayasuriya, Desmond Haynes, Chris Gayle, David Warner, etc. Notably, Sanath Jayasuriya sits at the top of this list with 19,298 runs in 563 Innings.
