Shakib Al Hasan is arguably the greatest cricketer in the history of Bangladesh cricket and there were lot of hopes on Shakib coming into this World Cup 2023. He was brilliant in the 2019 World Cup at number 3 but has failed to live up to his billing in this edition of World Cup. In the game against South Africa on a good batting deck, Shakib Al Hasan once again failed to deliver as he departed for just 1 off 4 balls.

Bangladesh are chasing a huge target of 383 after South African batters produced another carnage at Wankhede. In reply, Bangladesh kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 42-4 in the 12th over. The third of those wickets was of Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh's biggest hope.

It was Lizaad Williams who produced an important breakthrough in the 8th over as he bowled a back-of-a-length delivery, angling across the left-hander, around off. Shakib Al Hasan tried to punch it but only managed an outside edge as Heinrich Klaasen behind the stumps dived to his left and took a stunning catch. It left Bangladesh in tatters, making way for another big South African win.
