Abu Dhabi Knight Riders completed a six-wicket routing of Desert Vipers in match number three of the ongoing ILT20 2024 season off the back of a run-chase masterclass from unbeaten opener Andries Gous.

Interestingly, the Knight Riders put up their all-round exhibition in front of franchise co-owner Shahrukh Khan. The Bollywood superstar, who attended the Dubai International Cricket Stadium for his side’s opening game of the season, was also seemingly enthralled with a post-match gun-show from veteran all-rounder Andre Russell.

During the post-match customary meetup between players from both camps, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders all-rounder Andre Russell walked away from teammate Sunil Narine to interact with Shahrukh Khan.

Russell walked towards the boundary line, and greeted his team’s co-owner by flexing his muscles. Much to the delight of Shahrukh Khan, the all-round veteran also re-created the actor’s iconic Bollywood pose.

On the cricketing front, the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders restricted the Desert Vipers to 164-8 from their 20 overs. Ali Khan and Sunil Narine claimed five wickets together from their combined eight overs, and the two cricketers received much assistance with timely breakthroughs from David Willey, Imad Wasim and Josh Little.

Later in the run-chase, Andries Gous launched seven sixes and five boundaries in his whirlwind 95-run unbeaten knock from just 50 balls. Clutch knocks from Michael Pepper and Laurie Evans further ensured that the Knight Riders grabbed their two points on offer with six wickets and 14 balls to spare.

While Andre Russell was not required to bat throughout the run-chase, the cricketer will now turn up for his side in their subsequent ILT20 2024 league game against MI Emirates on January 23.

Russell was also retained by the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders’ sister franchise KKR for the forthcoming IPL 2024 season.
