Veteran Australian spinner Adam Zampa had a forgettable outing in the ongoing fourth ODI against South Africa, as he was clobbered for plenty of runs by the Proteas batters. The wily leg spinner went for 113 runs in his ten-over spell, recording the joint most expensive bowling figure in ODIs alongside fellow countryman Mick Lewis.

Worst ODI bowling figures in an innings

  • Mick Lewis: 0/113 (10) vs SA, Johannesburg, 2006
  • Adam Zampa: 0/113 (10) vs SA, Centurion, 2023
  • Wahab Riaz: 0/110 vs England, Nottingham, 2016
  • Rashid Khan: 0/110 vs England, Manchester, 2019
  • PRP Boissevain: 0/108 vs England, Amstelveen, 2022

Talking about Zampa, the 31-year-old cricketer had been impressive with the ball in the series prior to this game. After missing out on the last match, he returned to the playing XI for this crucial clash only to registered an unwanted feat.

Batting first, South Africa had a solid start to their innings, with openers Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock adding 64 runs for the first wicket. The Proteas had a mini collapse, losing De Kock, Markram and Rassie van der Dussen in quick succession.

However, Klaasen and David Miller swung the game completely into the hosts' favour, stitching a belligerent 222-run stand for the fifth wicket. While Klaasen hammered 174 runs off just 83 balls, while Miller contributed 82 runs, studded with six boundaries and five huge sixes.
