In a stunning display of athleticism, Indian Women captain Harmanpreet Kaur latched a one-handed catch to dismiss Aaliyah Alleyne of West Indies. Stationed at mid-on, Kaur jumped in time to pick a tough opportunity, and with that wicket, the Windies were reduced to 26/5.

India Women faced West Indies Women in the 1st ODI of the three-game series earlier today at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. Batting first, the host team stacked a humongous total of 314/9 courtesy of Smriti Mandhana’s 91 off 102 balls and notable contributions from Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, and Harmanpreet Kaur.

Meanwhile, West Indies cracked under the pressure of a steep chase and faced a humiliating collapse. Quiana Joseph was run out on a diamond duck before Renuka Singh got Hayley Matthews on a five-ball duck.

From 11/4, the Windies were hoping for a partnership between Aaliyah Alleyne and Shemaine Campbelle. However, Harmanpreet Kaur’s stunning fielding effort shocked the visitors.

Alleyne, who had been playing a steady hand, faced a delivery from Renuka Singh that was fuller than a good length, angled in towards the stumps. The batter attempted to swing hard at the ball, managing to make decent contact but failing to clear the Indian captain, standing at mid-on.

Harmanpreet Kaur positioned herself perfectly. As the ball rocketed toward her, she leaped into the air, stretching her left hand out to snatch the ball out of thin air. The catch was nothing short of spectacular, displaying remarkable athleticism and reflexes. As she landed, Kaur was immediately surrounded by her teammates in celebration.

That marked the fall of the fifth wicket for the West Indies with just 26 runs on the board. They still require 263 runs to win the contest but the wicket remaining at hand are only three.
