The South African cricket team donned pink jerseys in the 3rd ODI against Pakistan in 2024. Pink Day ODIs were first introduced in 2013. The objective of the Pink Day ODIs is to raise awareness and support for breast cancer. This is an important campaign for Cricket South Africa as it aims to promote early detection and screening for breast cancer, which is a common health problem in the country, affecting women.

Pakistan is visiting South Africa for an all-format bilateral series. The visitors lost the T20I series but triumphed in the ODI series with a 2-0 lead. To conclude the final game, both teams competed in the 3rd ODI at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

South Africa players spreads breast cancer awareness

That being said, as a part of their philanthropic initiative, South African players walked out in a pink jersey. This is an initiative that began in 2013 to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Proceeds from these matches usually go to charities and initiatives related to breast cancer. Historically, South Africa has performed well in these games, winning nine out of 11 Pink Day ODIs before the 2024 match against Pakistan.

That being said, South Africa opted to bow first after winning the toss. They scalped early success with the wicket of Abdullah Shafique, who was dismissed from a golden duck by Kagiso Rabada. Babar Azam joined Saim Ayub in the middle before rain stopped play.

Haris Rauf dropped by Mohammad Rizwan for 3rd ODI

In the third ODI against South Africa, Pakistan did some notable selections in their playing XI where they left out Haris Rauf. Haris Rauf has struggled throughout the tour, failing to take wickets in both the T20I series and the first two ODIs. Poor performances forced the team management to look elsewhere. With the series already in the bag, Pakistan decided to give Rauf a break and handed Mohammad Hasnain a chance to prove himself and get much-needed experience ahead of competitions like the Tri-Series and Champions Trophy 2025.
