The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons are facing off against the Guyana Aamazon Warriors in the second match of the CPL 2024 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, North Sound. The Falcons batted first in the game after Imran Tahir put them in on winning the coin flip.

Falcons put up a competitive total while batting first

The Falcons had a stop and start kind of an innings. Fakhar Zaman and Kofi James laid a strong initial foundation for them. However, after the departure of James, Zaman too slowed down and the Falcons lost a couple of wickets losing a bit of momentum in their progress.

The middle phase was dominated by the Warriors as their bowlers, led by Gudakesh Motie brought them back into the game. It was Imad Wasim who brought the momentum back into the innings of the Falcons with his 40 off 21 balls cameo. It was this fiery knock by Wasim that helped his team reach a fighting total of 168/6 in their 20 overs.

The Warriors were looking for a dynamic start to the chase, as was clear by the move of Gudakesh Motie opening the innings for them with Rahmanullah Gurbaz. The promotion of Motie up the order did not pay off for the Warriors as the skipper for the Falcons, Chris Green soon accounted for him.

Move of sending Motie to open did not work out for the Warriors

On the fifth delivery of the first over, Motie went down the ground and over the long-off fence for a huge maximum against Green. The Australian spinner however did not lose his composure after this big shot. He shortened the length on the next delivery and beat Motie, who was looking a play a similar shot, to disturb the stumps behind him. Green looked delighted to have made the come back and clearly expressed it with his celebration.

Though it was an early wicket, the Warriors might have not been too much affected by it. As the promotion of  Motie looked more like to be a tactical one. The message was clear for the southpaw to go out and swing his bat around and his fall in the process is something they might have kept in mind before making the move.

At the time of writing, the Guyana Amazon Warriors are stationed at 64/2 in 9 overs.
