In the 13th match of T20 World Cup 2024, Ireland won the toss and elected to bowl first and Canada ended up scoring 137 in the first innings. Nicholas Kirton, the left-handed batter was the star with the bat and scored 49 off 35 balls, which included three fours and two sixes.

The two sixes and one four came in a single over against Craig Young, and his knock clearly boosted Canada's score which was looking well below-par at one point in time. Kirton is originally from Barbados and the Caribbean flavour was evident in his strokeplay.

The first ball was a fullish delivery on the leg stump line and Kirton made a bit of room to powered it over long on for a maximum. The second delivery was a length delivery on the leg stump line and Kirton tucked it to the fine leg fence for a boundary.

Craig Young decided to change the angle on the next delivery and bowled it from 'round the wicket angling into leg. However, Kirton was upto the task again and lifted it over long off for another maximum.

His knock has taken Canada to a competitive total on a pitch that has good help for the bowlers, and it would be interesting to see how Irish batters go about their business in the second half.
