The right-handed explosive middle-order batter Iftikhar Ahmed proved his mettle once again in the ongoing Champions T20 Cup 2024 in Pakistan, where he is leading his side UMT Markhors. The 34-year-old, who was under pressure to score runs, made use of the opportunity and smashed sixes after sixes to change the face of the game.
He was in the news recently for getting run out but has now turned his fortunes with a significant knock against the Nurpur Lions. While batting at number four for his team, chasing 188, the big-hitter scored 66 off just 31 balls with as many as eight gigantic sixes to his name.
During the seventh over, he latched onto the chance to bludgeon two incredible back-to-back maximums against Muhammad Musa, providing a much-needed push in the game.
At that stage, the Markhors were 40 for two and needed some momentum to get back into the game which Ahmed duly fulfilled. Standing tall, Iftikhar smashed both the sixes down over the head of long-on and easily cleared the boundary.
Markhors Seal Last Ball Thriller Against Lions
Iftikhar's knock propelled Markhors to a decent score of 125 for three when he departed for 66 in the 14th over. However, Mohammad Faizan Khan was not ready to give up the fight and fought until the 19th over as he lost his wicket too for 66.
In the end, with five needed off the last delivery, Abdul Samad banged a six to steal the game from nowhere and take his side to an unbelievable victory by just three wickets.
This win keeps Markhors at second position with eight points, while Lions, with four points, will stay at third place.
