The ninth CPL 2024 match between St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and Barbados Royals is underway at the Warner Stadium in St Kitts. It has been a crazy start to the game, as the Patriots, batting first, lost three wickets for no run on the board.
It is not often that you see 0/3 in a cricket match, but something like that has happened in the ongoing match. Maheesh Theekshana came to bowl the first over for the Royals. It was a delightful start as he took a double-wicket maiden.
Theekshana Traps Evin Lewis And Kyle Mayers In His First Over
On the 2nd ball of the first over, Lewis failed to read the spin on the ball and was given LBW out by the on-field umpire. The southpaw knew that he made a blunder and did not even opt for a review.
Meanwhile, Kyle Mayers followed his countryman's footsteps and registered a silver duck as well. On the 4th ball of Theekshana's first over, the Sri Lanka mystery spinner bowled a peach of a delivery to rattle Mayers' stumps. Notably, the ball was pitched towards the leg-side and it spun back to castle LSG star.
Wellalage Strikes To Get The Captain
Things went from bad to worse for the home side as skipper Andre Fletcher too failed to get off the mark and was trapped in front of the wickets by Dunith Wellalage, who was delighted after the wicket.
At the time of writing this article, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots are 97/6 after 13.3 overs. Despite losing three wickets, Wanindu Hasaranga and Mikyle Louis stitched a fifty-run stand for the fourth wicket, but once Louis departed, a couple more fell to cripple the Patriots.
It is worth noting that for the first time in CPL, top-three batters have departed for a duck.
