The St. Kitts and Nevis Partiots and the Barbados Royals are facing off against each other in the ninth match of the CPL 2024 at the Warner Park in St. Kitts. The Royals won the toss ahead of the game and put the Patriots into bat.

Evin Lewis and Andre Fletcher opened the innings for the Patriots. Lewis scored a hundred two matches back, while Andre Fletcher played a blinder in the last outing. On a Warner Park track that has seen 200 plus total in all the innings played here in CPL 2024 so far, the Patriots expected a good start from the two openers.

However, things turned out differently. Maheesh Theekshana, the Sri Lankan mystery spinner, accounted for Evin Lewis and Kyle Mayers, another batter who has been in good touch, in the first over of the match.

Lewis was trapped by a carrom ball

Evin Lewis was the first wicket to fall of the second delivery of the first over. Theekshana bowled a carrom delivery at the off and middle stump line that straightened after pitching. Lewis, who was trying to block the delivery off the back foot, was trapped in front of the stumps. A huge appeal followed, and the umpire had no hesitation in raising his finger. Lewis had to walk back to the hut for a silver duck.

Kyle Mayers was beaten by turn

On the fourth delivery of the over, Theekshana sent Kyle Mayers packing back to the hut. This time, the bowler brought out an off-spinner. The ball pitched around the middle stump line and turned away from the batter. Mayers was looking to defend the ball on the line and was beaten by the turn. As the ball crashed into the off stump, Mayers, too, had to walk back for a silver duck.

Hasaranga is leading the repair work

Maheesh Theekshana did not concede a single run of the over. It was a magical double wicket over to start off for the Royals by the Sri Lankan bowler. Wanindu Hasarang and Mikyle Louis are currently stitching together a partnership and doing the repair job for the Patriots. They are currently stationed at 71/3 after 7 overs.
