Washington Sundar gets recognition [Source: BCCI]
After the T20I series win against Australia, India celebrated their triumph in style in the dressing room. All-rounder Washington Sundar was rewarded with the impact player of the series award for his brilliance.
The 5th T20I was unfortunately abandoned after severe lightning and rain lashed down at Brisbane.
India were declared the winners of the series with a 2-1 lead, marking a historic triumph on Australian soil.
Washington Sundar honoured for brilliance in T20I series
Meanwhile, Team India greeted the Australian squad on their way out in what turned out to be a great sportsmanlike gesture.
The celebrations continued in the dressing room as support staff member Rahil was given the responsibility to hand over the impact player of the series award.
The award was given to all-rounder Washington Sundar, who scored 61 runs in two innings and picked three wickets as well.
Sundar was equally agile in the field and played a key role in India’s victory at Hobart.
“It’s such a great feeling to get this medal from him [Rahil]. We know the kind of work he puts in every single day to make all of our jobs easy. Coming over here and getting an opportunity to play in Australia is amazing, and to have contributed to that drove it to the team’s victory makes me definitely happy. Thanks all,” Sundar said.
Before the series, Washington Sundar was criticised for his role in the T20I set-up. Many deemed specialist spinner Kuldeep Yadav as the right fit over an all-rounder.
However, Sundar shut the critics up and used his experience in Australian conditions to his advantage.
India to play with South Africa next
That being said, after acing the assignment Down Under, India will now head home for another multi-format bilateral series against South Africa. The tour consists of two Tests followed by three ODIs and five T20Is.
The first Test will be held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 14.
