Indian bowlers collectively demolished hosts Australia in Queensland to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match T20I series. Washington Sundar, Axar Patel and Shivam Dube all demonstrated their all-round excellence with bat and ball to headline India’s comprehensive win in Glenn Maxwell’s comeback game.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the fourth T20I of the five-match series between Australia and India, as it panned out at the Carrara Oval in Gold Coast on Thursday, November 6.

Shubman Gill anchors, Axar Patel flourishes, India gets 167

Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill laid out a 49-run powerplay start after Australian captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and invited India to bat first. Abhishek struck three boundaries and a six in his 21-ball 28 before he mistimed one off Adam Zampa at 56-1 in the seventh over. Shivam Dube and captain Suryakumar Yadav unleashed swift 20s each in the middle overs to get India’s scoreboard moving.

Shubman Gill top-scored in the innings by listing a cautious 46 from 39 balls with four fours and a six. Tilak Varma and Jitesh Sharma failed to provide the slog-overs impetus as the two blistering middle-order stars were dismissed in quick succession by Adam Zampa (3-45). All-rounders Washington Sundar (12 off 7) and Axar Patel (21* off 11) collectively flourished at the death as India reached a competitive 167-8.

For Australia, Nathan Ellis unfurled the spell of the innings with tight figures of 3-21, which included the prized scalps of Shivam Dube and Shubman Gill. Fast bowlers Xavier Bartlett and Marcus Stoinis also chipped in with a wicket each.

Washington Sundar, Axar Patel and Shivam Dube engulf Australia

Australian captain Mitchell Marsh clubbed 30 off 24 balls with four elegant boundaries, and his opening partner Matthew Short listed a quick 19-ball 25 to form a 37-run partnership in less than five overs. With Josh Inglis at the other end, Marsh motored Australia to 67-1 at one stage of their run-chase, before a dramatic batting collapse orchestrated by Indian bowlers bundled out the hosts for just 119 in 18.2 overs.

Glenn Maxwell scored just two off four balls before he was knocked over by Varun Chakravarthy in his comeback game. Ace pacemen Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah picked up a wicket each towards the end. However, it were Axar Patel (2-20), Shivam Dube (2-20) and Washington Sundar (3-3) who truly masterminded Australia’s collapse as India took a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
