England batter James Vince believes that the end of his partnership with Sam Billings spoiled England's chances to win the game.
Chasing a tricky 281, England lost the openers early and at one stage were tottering at 34 for 3, when Billings and Vince joined hands.
The duo resurrected the innings and added 122 runs to give a glimmer of hope to their side. However, the dismissal of Vince (60) was the turning point of the game as the rest of the batters fell like a pack of cards and Australia won the match by 72 runs.
Now after the match, Vince was disappointed and rued the missed chances.
"Losing those wickets early, we had to rebuilt. We got it going and once I got out, there was another flurry which killed the game off."
I would have liked a bigger contribution to get us towards the target, same with Bilbo (Billings). If we could have kept the partnership going, we would have given ourselves more chance of winning," Vince added.
Was the wicket two paced?
"The wicket was reasonably tricky. In patches it seemed to be quite hard and it wasn't every ball, but there was variable bounce and the ball sticking into the pitch," he opined.
England will collide against Australia in the 3rd ODI of the series on Tuesday. With a comfortable 2-0 lead for the hosts, the next match is basically a dead rubber.
