Virat Kohli, an icon in the world of cricket, continues to etch his name in the annals of the sport's history. On the cusp of his 35th birthday, the 34-year-old maestro added another feather to his cap by becoming the latest entrant into the exclusive 4000-run club against Sri Lanka in international cricket.

This remarkable feat was achieved at the iconic Mumbai Wankhede Stadium on a memorable Thursday.

Kohli has been in good form during the 2023 World Cup, displaying his prowess with the bat. The momentous record was secured when he reached a score of 70 runs against Sri Lanka, a feat he accomplished in the 25th over of the match.

The match had its share of drama as Dushmantha Chameera missed a crucial opportunity, dropping a catch offered by the former Indian captain when he was just at 10 runs. It was a missed chance that Sri Lanka would rue, especially after Dilshan Madushanka had already dismissed the in-form Rohit Sharma for  4 runs in the very first over.

Kohli capitalised on the reprieve, shifting into high gear and putting the Sri Lankan bowlers under immense pressure.

As of the moment, he, along with Shubman Gill, is leading the charge for India, with the team's total standing at an impressive 142 for 1 after 25 overs. Virat Kohli's relentless pursuit of excellence in the game of cricket continues to be a source of inspiration for fans and players alike.
