Riding on stupendous batting from Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill, India got off to a flying start to their innings in the ongoing World Cup game against Sri Lanka in Mumbai. After being put into bat first, India lost skipper Rohit Sharma early before Kohli and Gill stabilised the innings with a magnificent century stand. During the course of their scintillating partnership, Kohli applauded one of Gill's glorious shots with an animated reaction that took internet by storm.
The incident occurred in the 16th over when Lankan skipper Mendis brought Dilshan Madushanka back into the attack to break the second wicket partnership.
After Kohli took a single in the third delivery, Gill dispatched the next ball to the extra cover fence to collect four precious runs.
It was a harmless short-of-good-length delivery from Madushanka, which Gill whacked in the off side with great power and authority. As soon as the ball breached the boundary rope, Kohli applauded the youngster's shot with an animated reaction.
Soon, both batters completed their half centuries, frustrating the Lankan bowlers to the core. As of writing, India are in the driving seat, placed at 127 for one, with Kohli and Gill batting on 58* and 56*, respectively.
