India ended their 11-years ICC trophy drought on Saturday, June 29 after they beat South Africa in the finals of T20 World Cup 2024. The Men in Blue, who posted 171 runs on the board, defended the total and won the match by seven runs.
It was an emotional win for the Indian side as they have come close to ending their drought but slipped in the finals as they did in the 2023 World Cup. After the win, several players got emotional and in particular, Virat Kohli, who scored crucial 76 (59), which featured six fours and two sixes.
Virat, who had scored just 75 runs in the first seven games, scored 76 runs and won the player of the match award for his performance. During the post-match presentation, Virat also announced his retirement from T20I cricket and stated that it was his last game for India in the shortest format of the match irrespective of what the result would have been of the match.
Kohli also added that it is now for the youngsters to take the game forward.
