Venkatesh Iyer, the costliest player of the Kolkata Knight Riders made a mess of a simple catch as Vijay Shankar, the CSK batter got a lifeline as the KKR fielder allowed him to get away easily. Venkatesh had all the time in the world to take the catch but his fielding efforts came into scrutiny.

Iyer makes a mess of simple catch

Shankar came out to bat with a positive frame of mind as he smacked Varun Chakravarthy for a couple of big hits. However, he got one lifeline earlier in the innings as Sunil Narine dropped an easy catch of him and the batter got another respite as Venkatesh made his life a lot easier.

Harshit Rana bowled an off-cutter as Shankar closed the bat face and got a leading-edge. The ball ballooned towards the mid-wicket region where the 23.75 crore buy fielder was standing as he got underneath the ball and spilled the simplest catch of all-time.

The fact that he hardly had to cover any ground while judging the catch makes it a costly and perhaps the easiest drop catch in IPL history.

Vijay Shankar departs for 29

Vijay Shankar looked in ominous touch and also got two lifelines in the process. However, batting at 29, he slogged a Varun Chakravarthy delivery and found the fielder in the deep. He ensured that CSK got a kick-start after losing two early wickets.

At the moment, CSK are 62/3 inside 11 overs with Rahul Tripathi and Shivam Dube at the crease.
