Vaibhav Suryavanshi showed that he is fully ready for the upcoming Under-19 World Cup by producing a powerful performance in a warm-up match. The young Indian batter played a stunning innings, scoring 96 runs from just 50 balls against Bangladesh in the third Under-19 World Cup warm-up game. The match took place at the Bulawayo Athletic Club in Zimbabwe on Saturday, January 10.
India began their innings after Scotland chose to bowl first. Indian captain Ayush Mhatre opened the innings along with Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Both batters started confidently and added quick runs at the top.

However, Ayush Mhatre was removed for 22 runs from 19 balls. Soon after his dismissal, India lost an early wicket, yet Suryavanshi continued to bat with patience and control. He focused on rotating the strike and picking the right deliveries to attack.
As the innings moved forward, Suryavanshi built a vital partnership with Aaron George. Together, they added 78 runs, which helped India regain momentum.
During this phase, Suryavanshi remained calm and composed while also playing aggressive shots when needed. His timing and shot selection stood out, making it difficult for the bowlers to settle into a rhythm.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi misses out on well-deserved century
Notably, Suryavanshi came very close to reaching a well-deserved century. However, he was dismissed in the 17th over of India’s innings after scoring 96 runs. His knock included seven sixes and nine boundaries. At that point, India’s score stood at 148 for two wickets, giving the team a strong platform.
Looking back at his recent performances, Suryavanshi’s form has been remarkable. Over the past month, he has scored four centuries in fifty-over matches. Three of those centuries came while playing for India Under-19, and one came in the Vijay Hazare Trophy while representing Bihar.
At just 14 years of age, Suryavanshi has started the year 2026 in outstanding fashion. During the India Under-19 series against South Africa Under-19, he captained the side and scored 206 runs across three innings. His strike rate of 187.27 showed his intent to score quickly and put pressure on the opposition.
Prior to that series, he also impressed in the VHT 2025–26 for Bihar, scoring 221 runs in two innings. He maintained an average of 110.50 along with a striking strike rate of 235.11.
Team India look formidable ahead of World Cup
India have been placed in Group B for the Under-19 World Cup, alongside Bangladesh, New Zealand, and the United States of America. The Indian team will begin their campaign against the USA on January 15 at the Queens Sports Club. The group appears manageable, and India will aim to move forward with confidence.
It is worth mentioning that New Zealand and Bangladesh are expected to provide the toughest challenge. With Vaibhav Suryavanshi in such strong form, India will feel encouraged as they begin their journey in the tournament.
