The preparations for IPL 2026 are in full swing, and the teams are busy finalising their squad ahead of the retention deadline, which is touted to be November 15. The teams have a tough choice ahead as they want to retain their core squad, but also create space for new players.

Eyes will be on breakout talents, who burst into the scene during IPL 2025 and are expected to explode in the same manner in the upcoming edition. However, teams are also sweating hard as a few of their talents have been underwhelming in events post IPL and fear that they don't turn into one-season wonders.

Meanwhile, this article will shed light on these three star players, who had a great IPL 2025, but might fall flat in the upcoming season.

1. Ayush Mhatre

Ayush Mhatre came in as a replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad during IPL 2025 and stormed into the league with his heroics at the top. The youngster shifted gears for CSK from the first ball and scored 240 runs in seven innings, averaging 34.29.

  • Following the IPL, Mhatre led India U19 against Australia and England, but is struggling for runs. Talking about white-ball cricket, Mhatre only managed to score 27 runs in four innings against England A in the youth ODIs, averaging just 6.75.
  • When it felt that things couldn't go any worse for Mhatre, then came the Australia A tour, where he had an average of 3.33, amassing just 10 runs in three innings.

2. Digvesh Rathi

Digvesh Rathi broke into the scene with LSG during IPL 2025, where the right-arm spinner eventually became the team's go-to-bowler in crunch situations. Rathi took 14 wickets in 13 matches.

  • However, post IPL, Rathi took part in the Delhi Premier League, a tournament that actually gave him the platform to play in the IPL. During DPL 2025, Rathi was underwhelming and only picked up four wickets in nine games and leaked runs at an economy of 10+.

3. Angkrish Raghuvanshi

The third name on the list would be KKR's Angkrish Raghuvanshi. The KKR star was the only positive sign for the Men in Purple and Gold during IPL 2025. The right-handed batter scored 300 runs in 11 innings, averaging 33.33.
