As expected, rain threatens to play spoilsport in the all-important finals of the Women’s World Cup between India and South Africa in Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium. In the last couple of weeks, rain threat has loomed large and the semi-finals between India and Australia was also affected, but at-least the entire match was completed.

As a result of this persistent rain, the toss has been delayed between India and South Africa as both sides now wait anxiously for the game to begin. As per Accuweather, there is a 63% chance of rain on Sunday, and the weather is unlikely to improve as the day progresses. At the moment, the pitch is covered, as grey skies hover over the stadium.

As per the official update, the toss will now take place at 3 PM IST, and the match will commence at 3:30 PM.

(Update: Rain intensified as toss won't take place at 3 PM).

Navi Mumbai weather updates

Currently, there is a 63% chance of rain, in India vs South Africa and while the intensity will decrease, the chance of rain throughout the evening remains. The probability of precipitation reduces in the evening to 25%, but even that could affect the outcome of the game.

What happens if rain plays spoilsport?

There is a reserve day for the finals, which means that if rain plays spoilsport on Sunday, the game could continue on Monday as well, but there are certain rules for the reserve day as well.

If a full 50-over match begins on Sunday but is interrupted due to rain midway and the match is reduced to 40 overs or less per side and cannot resume on the same day, it will restart as a fresh 50-over contest the following day.

Or, if the play resumes after being reduced to 40 overs, but rain returns and stops the play again, then in such a scenario, the match will begin from the same spot on the reserve day, and won’t start from ball one.

Women's World Cup final Toss update
