On Sunday, November 2, India women will lock horns against South African women in the final of the Women's World Cup at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side are just a win away from lifting their first-ever fifty-over title, and the whole world awaits what happens on Sunday.

Eyes are also on the weather, as it has been a major factor in this tournament. Talking about Navi Mumbai's weather on Sunday, there are predictions of early morning showers. It is touted to be a passing shower, but rain is also expected to return in the evening, which can spoil the game and halt proceedings.

Now, the fans are curious as to what will happen if the rain intensifies and the match gets abandoned. Also, is there a reserve day or not. Thus, this article will shed light on that.

What happens if rain spoils India women vs South Africa women final

Firstly, for the unversed, there is a reserve day for the ICC Women's World Cup final, which means that if rain spoils play on Sunday, then the final will take place on Monday, November 3. Also, there are two scenarios that the fans should know about and how they work.

What are the rules for a reserve day?

Scenario 1 for fresh game: If a full 50-over match begins on Sunday but is interrupted due to rain midway and the match is reduced to 40 overs or less per side and cannot resume on the same day, it will restart as a fresh 50-over contest the following day.

Scenario 2 for resumption from last day: If play resumes after being reduced to let's say 40 overs, but rain returns and stops play again. The match will then continue from the reduced point on the reserve day and not as a fresh game.

What happens if the reserve day gets washed out because of rain?

Notably, if the reserve day too gets washed out, then unfortunately, there is no second reserve day and the trophy will be shared between the two teams. Both the India women and the South Africa women will be declared as the joint-winners.
