In an emotional moment and with a lot of heart, England's cricket team, captained by Ben Stokes, presented a guard of honour when New Zealand's fast-bowling legend, Tim Southee, batted for the last time in a Test match. The England players lined up at Seddon Park at the beginning of the first day of the third Test to do justice to Southee's distinguished career - an astonishing 107 Tests.

The moment was made even more special as Southee, flanked by his New Zealand teammates and holding hands with his daughter, walked onto the field. The gesture of respect from the England squad highlighted the deep admiration they have for the pacer's contribution to the game. As Southee approached the crease, the crowd erupted in applause, knowing this would be his final appearance in Test cricket.

Southee celebrated his final innings in his own usual style, which was that of bold and fearless batting, as he struck a lightning-fast 23 off 10 balls. He slammed one boundary and three towering sixes during his inning and brought his career tally of Test sixes to 98, equalling the tally by the great Chris Gayle. Only a handful of other players—Adam Gilchrist, Brendon McCullum, and Ben Stokes among them—have hit more sixes in Test cricket.
Southee, who announced his retirement from Test cricket in September, will finish his career in the 2023-25 World Test Championship cycle, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the longest format of the game.
