The IPL trade window is buzzing with speculation, but one has piqued the most interest among the fans. If the recent reports are to be believed, Sanju Samson is all set for a franchise change ahead of IPL 2026.

Notably, the Royal retained him for ₹ 18 crore ahead of IPL 2025, and despite this hefty sum, more than one team is interested in Samson.

The team most associated with this trade is CSK. However, more recent reports suggest that a couple of other teams might also be interested. Here is a look at three different teams that can look to trade Smamson ahead of the IPL 2026 season.

1. Kolkata Knight Riders

The three-time IPL champions might look for an Indian wicketkeeper after the poor displays in 2025 by Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Quinton de Kock. This would give them greater flexibility in recruiting overseas players and also more dynamism to work around during the tournament.

KKR started the IPL 2025 as the defending champions. However, their inability to make the playoffs highlighted squad weaknesses. Samson's experience and consistency could be an answer to some of their issues.

His proven leadership abilities, including his track record of taking the Royals to the finals in 2026, suggest that KKR might be looking for him.

2. Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians represent the perfect place that can provide an opportunity for an Indian wicketkeeper-foster.

In IPL 2025, Ryan Rickelton looked impactful, but his consistency was lacking. Suryakumar Yadav mostly carried the Mumbai Indians to the playoffs in the last edition of the tournament.

Samson's presence behind the stumps and his abilities as a captain could provide the leadership and the batting depth the MI might be seeking.

3. Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad might look to find a replacement for their ₹11.25 recruitment, Ishan Kishan.

The Indian wicketkeeper scored 354 runs in 14 matches during the tournament; however, 200 of these runs came in a couple of matches. This shows significant inconsistency from Kishan at the top of SRH's order.

Replacing Ishan Kishan with Sanju Samson will not only give them a much more stable batter at the top of the order but also a player who can contribute as a leader in the decision-making process with Pat Cummins.

Conclusion

All three franchises present compelling cases with specific needs that Samson can fulfil.

While Samson might retain his captaincy status as he joins KKR, the Mumbai Indians might allow him to express himself freely. The SRH presents the best opportunity for immediate impact and a leadership role.
