The final of The Hundred 2024 men’s competition saw an intense showdown between Oval Invincibles and Southern Brave at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. 

Both teams entered the final with high expectations, but it was Oval Invincibles who emerged victorious in a thrilling contest to claim the title.

In Southern Brave’s 148-run chase, the Invincibles bowlers, especially Saqib Mahmood induced a middle order collapse which forced the Brave’s into shell, thus resulting in a heartbreaking loss. 

Meanwhile, Oval successfully defended the title to claim their second The Hundred trophy in two years.

After being asked to bat first, Oval Invincibles jetted off to a good start courtesy of opener Will Jacks’ muscle power. He slammed three sixes to put up 37 runs off 22 balls before Sam Curran carried forward the momentum.

Before Oval Invincibles could dream of a mammoth target, Akeal Hosein applied brakes by removing Sam Curran and Sam Billings in two successive deliveries. The loss of the captain on the golden duck surely affected Oval’s final score, as they finished with 147/9 by the end of 100 balls.

James Vince, the leading run-scorer of The Hundred 2024 edition, was perhaps the biggest threat to Oval Invincibles. However, Will Jacks showcased his all-round skills to knock Vince out early on the 48th ball. The breakthrough was pivotal and eventually happened at the title-deciding moment.

With 49 runs needed off the final 30 balls, Saqib Mahmood bowled the spell of the tournament to outclass Brave out of the contest. He removed du Plooy, big man Kieron Pollard, and Laurie Evans in seven balls before Adam Zampa threw the final punch to dismiss Chris Jordan.
