It is fair to say that Team India has been shambolic on the field Vs England in the ongoing Headingley Test match. As many as 5 catches were dropped by the side and it costed them big time as the dropped chances allowed Ollie Pope to score a stunning century on Day 1 and Harry Brook to slam 99 runs on Day 2.

The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan and Ravindra Jadeja dropped easy chances and this allowed the English batters to press the accelerator and push for a big total. The side missed six big chances, and according to statistical data by Cricviz, the Shubman Gill-led side recorded the most dropped catches in the last five years.

Not only dropped catches but Jasprit Bumrah also bowled a no-ball and gave a lifeline to Harry Brook who was struggling to play the Indian seamer.

How India's dropped chances allowed England to capitalise

  • The first chance came to Yashasvi Jaiswal off Ben Duckett in the fifth over of the innings. Till that point, Duckett was struggling for runs against Bumrah but it gave him a respite as the batter then went onto play an aggressive knock of 62.
  • Two overs later, Duckett gave yet another chance as he miscued a shot towards the backward point region and Team India's best fielder, Ravindra Jadeja missed the chance as the English batter got away once again.
  • Jaiswal was once again the guilty fielder as Bumrah created a chance out of nowhere and nicked one off Ollie Pope's bat as the Indian fielder dropped a dolly and Pope went onto slam his 9th Test ton.
  • English keeper, Jamie Smith gave the fourth chance as he flicked a delivery from Ravindra Jadeja and Sai Sudharsan was the culprit. He was at short leg and allowed the ball to slip away as the batter scored 40 runs.
  • Jaiswal came into the frame once again as Brook got another lifeline. He edged one from Bumrah and Jaiswal at third slip dropped yet another dolly.
