After the spinfest in Dhaka in the first ODI between Bangladesh and West Indies, the visitors employed an outstanding tactic in the second ODI at the same venue. Going by the pitch and the nature of the conditions, the West Indies side have used as many as five spinners all of a sudden at the beginning of their innings.
West Indies employ heavy spin tactics against Bangladesh
After the disappointment of losing the first ODI against Bangladesh at the spinfest in Dhaka, the West Indies cricket team has made sure to include spinners in their ranks. Not 1, 2, or 3, but in fact, as many as 5 spinners have already bowled through the course of their first innings.
Incidentally, it is also only the fifth time a full member has utilised two spinners from both ends to open the innings in one-day cricket.
Previously, the last three occurrences have been at the very same venue, done by the Bangladesh side twice in 2018 and once in 2022. The only time it was done outside of Dhaka was a match between New Zealand and South Africa at Hamilton in 2017, when the BlackCaps handed the ball to two spinners, Jeetan Patel and Mitchell Santner.
Surprisingly, there have also been only five instances of a captain using the first four bowlers as spinners, which has happened only in associate cricket, while this is the very first time it has happened in a game involving full members. Astonishingly, this was also the very first time that the first five bowlers were spinners in ODI cricket.
The spin was expected to favour the spinners in this game, and the West Indies previously called up Akeal Hosein in a flight from the Caribbean for this and the next ODI, considering these conditions in Dhaka.

WI have made full use of the conditions as the pitch has turned out to be slower in nature and darker in colour.
With the kind of match going on, expect Bangladesh to also employ a similar strategy as they did in the last game, where spinners played a massive role, as Bangladesh clinched the first ODI by 74 runs, as West Indies failed to bat against the spin wave of the Bangla Tigers, where Rishad Hossain picked six wickets.
For the West Indies, Akeal Hosein, Roston Chase, Khary Pierre, Gudakesh Motie, and Alick Athanaze have already delivered the ball for the Caribbean side, and by the end of the 28 overs, Bangladesh have lost four of their wickets with 96 runs on the board.
