'Table Doesn't Define Your Mood,' Virat Kohli Feels There's a Long Way to Go

Returning to captain the side after a gap of almost one season, stand-in skipper Virat Kohli wasn't shying away from his usual best as he led his side Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to a 24-run victory against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

The match started well in RCB's favour as Kohli and Faf du Plessis played handy fifty run knocks to take their team to 174 after the end of 20 overs. In return, PBKS were bowled out for 150 after Mohammed Siraj bagged a four-wicket haul to decimate the opposition.

During the post-match presentation, Kohli mentioned that they don't really consider results as a way of judging a team instead it's how you perform on a certain day.

Moreover, he added that standings on the points table don't affect them as such because what actually matters is how they are placed by the end of 12-13 games.

"Yeah, exactly that's what I said earlier. This result doesn't make us an invincible team and the results before this game doesn't make us a bad team. The table doesn't define your mood. It's towards games 12-13 that decides where we are,"

In Kohli, words, they evaluated the conditions very well which supported them during the course of the game.

"We assessed the conditions really well. The conditions changed drastically in the first half. I think Faf batted outstandingly in the first innings. The way he batted helped us add 20-30 extra runs to the total. We had to spend some extra time since we weren't batting deep,"

The right-hander also spoke on the condition of the wicket which he felt was rough which made it difficult for the batters to hit big shots.

"I felt the wicket underneath was rough. As soon as the 7-8 over was done, the ball was going bashed through the square, and the ball was getting scuffed up. I think there was not enough water there as the pitch stays shiny if it is done well. There were hardly any sixes hit off the back foot against the spinners. Even off the seamers, the ball wasn't going well."

After this victory, Royal Challengers will next be playing against Rajasthan Royals on 23rd of April.
