That being said, before the beginning of the match, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh players lined up to hold a minute-long silence to pay homage to the late father of Sri Lankan bowler Dunith Wellalage. The players will also be sporting black armbands as a sign of respect to the deceased.

Wellalage’s father died of a heart attack during the Sri Lanka-Afghanistan match held on September 18. The team’s head coach, Sanath Jayasuriya, gently broke the news to Dunith after the game.

Jayasuriya was seen putting his arm around the player, consoling him after revealing the devastating update. Moreover, Dunith Wellalage showed immense emotional strength as he flew back to his hometown for the last rites and returned to Dubai in time for the Super Four clash against Bangladesh.

The 21-year-old has been retained in the playing XI despite getting hit for 5 sixes by Mohammad Nabi in the previous clash. Against Afghanistan, the left-arm spinner conceded 49 runs in 4 overs, taking just one wicket. Despite the onslaught, Sri Lanka managed to secure a crucial victory and advance further in the tournament.

Talking about the ongoing match, at the time of writing, Sri Lanka have got off to a flyer as the Charith Asalanka-led side are 43/0 after 4.3 overs.
