Deepti Sharma crowned No. 1 T20I bowler; Smriti Mandhana slips in latest ICC rankings

India women’s all-rounder Deepti Sharma has claimed the number one spot among T20I bowlers in the latest ICC Women’s Player Rankings.

This is the first time in her career that she has risen to the top of the ICC rankings, with 737 rating points to her name. Sharma effectively replaced Australia’s Annabel Sutherland at the summit, with the latter now holding 736 points.

Deepti Sharma earned this ranking after her exploits in the Sri Lanka T20I series at home, where she returned figures of 1 for 20 from four overs against Sri Lanka in Vizag, helping her surge to the top of the rankings. Significantly, Deepti gained five rating points from India’s victory to claim the top spot.

Laura Wolvaardt replaces Smriti Mandhana

Notably, South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt has also emerged as the number one player in the latest ICC Women’s ODI batting rankings.

Wolvaardt replaced India star Smriti Mandhana, who dropped to second place. As Laura reigns at the top with 820 points in the rankings, Smriti Mandhana crawls 9 points behind.

For the unaware, Wolvaardt’s rise to the top came after her century in the final match of South Africa’s three-match ODI series against Ireland.

How did other IND-W players fare in ICC’s latest rankings?

Meanwhile, Renuka Singh Thakur dropped three places to rank 14th in the current rankings of the T20I bowlers list, while Radha Yadav maintained her 15th position.

Meanwhile, Jemimah Rodrigues maintains her 10th position with 658 points on the list. India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur ranks 14th on the ODI batter list with 634 points to her name.
