The Ishan Kishan-led Jharkhand met a powerful Haryana side in the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune, on Thursday, December 18, as both teams looked to clinch their first SMAT title on the night. However, Ishan's men once again proved why they had come into the match, losing only one of their 10 matches in the campaign, as they displayed a power-packed performance, leaving the opponents with no chance to fightback.

Leading from the front with a century, captain Kishan became the first Jharkhand captain to lift any domestic title, across formats, as they defeated Haryana by 69 runs. Here's how the final unfolded.

Ishan Kishan leads Jharkhand from the front

After being asked to bat first in the all-important final, captain Ishan Kishan lost his opening partner, Virat Singh, in the first over and was joined by the fellow wicketkeeper batter Kumar Kushagra in the middle. The duo stitched a mammoth 177-run partnership for the second wicket in just 82 deliveries, taking the match away from Haryana.

During their partnership, Ishan became only the second batter after Anmolpreet Singh to score a century in the SMAT final, as he ended with a 101(59), with six fours and 10 sixes to his name. On the other end, the Gujarat Titans wicketkeeper finished with 81(38) with 8 fours and five sixes and missed his ton.

Anukul & Minz provide a stellar finish

Having lost the set batters in quick succession, Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper Robin Minz and Anukul Roy also finished with 200+ strike rates each. To cap off a memorable campaign, Roy scored 40*(20), with three fours and two sixes, and Minz got 31*(14), with three sixes to his name. A 75*(32) partnership for the fourth wicket took their first innings total to 262/3. For Haryana, Anshul Kamboj, Sumit Kumar and Samnt Jakhar took a wicket each.

Dalal and Sindhu's rescue efforts in vain

With a massive target to chase, the in-form Haryana suffered early blows from the Jharkhand pacers inside the powerplay. Vikash Singh struck twice in the first over and sent captain Ankit Kumar and Ashish Siwach back to the hut for ducks, followed by Sushant Mishra dismantling Arsh Ranga's wickets at 4.4 to further put Haryana in difficulty.

While Yashvardhan Dalal and Nishant Sindhu tried to pull their team out of the rut with blistering Dalal's 53(22), with 2 fours and five sixes and Sindhu's 31(15), with six fours, Anukul Roy came in the 10th over and once inflicted another mini-collapse with a double-wicket over, dismissing both the set batters after a 67(27) partnership. Right in the next over, Sushant Mishra dismissed Parth Vats and reduced Haryana to 109/6, with almost 10 overs left.

Samant Jakhar tried to do some damage with his cameo of 38(17), but it was never going to be enough for them, as they could not even bat the full quota of 20 overs and got bowled out for 193. Tournament's highest leading wicket-taker Mishra was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with the figures of 3/27, and three others took two wickets each. On the batting front, Kishan finished with 517 runs in 10 innings, with two centuries and two fifties at a strike rate of 197.32.

Up next, the focus will shift to fifty-over cricket, with the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/26 set to begin from December 24.
