Melbourne Stars skipper Marcus Stoinis added another achievement to his illustrious T20 career on Thursday, December 18, as he breached the 3000-run mark in the Big Bash League, when the Stars took on the Hobart Hurricanes at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The landmark was achieved at the brink of the 10th over, when Rishad Hossain's half-volley was cracked over the extra cover by the explosive batter to collect a boundary and take his team's score to 89/2 in their 159-run chase on the night.

Having picked 2/18 in his 3 overs during the first innings, including the key wickets of opener Nikhil Chaudhary and the well set Ben McDermott at 69(52), Stoinis had come in to bat at 58/2 in the run-chase and guided his team past the winning line comfortably, with an unbeaten knock of 62 off 31, with the help of 7 fours and two sixes to his name to clinch the Player of the Match award. With this win, the Stars go to the top of the table, on the virtue of the best net-run rate among the teams who have won their opening games.
Moving ahead, the 36-year-old all-rounder is very likely to feature in the upcoming T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in February and March, as the Aussies look to win their second title. They have been grouped alongside Ireland, Oman, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in Group B and will open their campaign on February 11 against Ireland in Colombo.
Stoinis has also been retained by the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League and will be seen donning the red after their memorable 2025 run to the final.
