Shubman Gill did not took a review in fifth T20I (Twitter)
Shubman Gill, who regained his T20I form with a match-winning 77 last evening, failed to capitalise on his newfound momentum in the series-decider. The cricketer was dismissed for a mere nine in the fifth T20I played at Lauderhill, as he was seemingly trapped in front of stumps by West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein.
As it turned out, the cricketer would have survived the LBW decision if he had taken a review, as replays indicated the ball was missing the leg stump.
Gill decides against taking a review in unfortunate dismissal
Shubman Gill was dismissed for just nine at run-a-ball to become Akeal Hosein’s second victim within the powerplay. He was adjudged LBW by the on-field umpire after he was seemingly trapped in front of stumps by the new-ball spinner.
Gill, who was batting with Suryakumar Yadav, considered taking DRS for a while before opting against any review. Unfortunately for the opener, television replays later indicated that the ball would have missed the leg stump.
The dynamic right-handed batter would have survived if he had gone upstairs for a third umpire opinion, but instead, his untimely dismissal paved an early entry for Tilak Varma into the crease.
In the meantime, India reached 86 for 3 by the end of 10th over. Varma seems to have carried on his scintillating touch with the bat in the series-decider, and he was ably assisted by his senior Mumbai Indians and Team India mate Suryakumar Yadav.
