Former Pakistan Captain Cites Internal Factors for India's ICC Tournament Struggles

Team India has undoubtedly been a standout performer in world cricket, yet it's impossible to overlook the fact that they have been trophy-less in ICC events for the last ten years.

The Men in Blue have taken part in a total of nine international ICC tournaments since their Champions Trophy victory in 2013, but they have come up empty-handed in terms of adding more trophies to their cabinet.

Meanwhile, the former Pakistan wicket-keeper batter, Rashid Latif has dropped a bombshell on why India's trophy cabinet has been collecting dust over the last ten years.

Latif believes that it's all the in-house drama in the Indian cricket team that has been playing spoiler to their ICC title dreams.

The former cricketer also cited Virat Kohli’s sacking as captain and India’s top-order crisis as other reasons behind their continuous failure in ICC events.

Here’s what Rashid Latif said in his YouTube channel:

“Virat Kohli had a direction and wanted to win, but he was sacked. The team couldn’t perform due to internal issues. They couldn’t perform in ICC tournaments because, maybe, the captain didn’t get the desired players. Or maybe he got it, but they weren’t used. Now, there are two big events – Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and the World Cup at home. Their team is still pretty good, they will get a no.4.”

“The problem begins when the top-3 get dismissed quickly. If the top-3 batters play out the 25-30 overs, they will win easily. Their issue is the top-3 isn’t performing how it used to. They could’ve brought back Shikhar Dhawan. You had made him captain less than a year ago during a tour. You had players, you threw them here and there."

Currently, Rohit Sharma-led India are gearing up for the Asia Cup, in Sri Lanka and Pakistan, which will be followed by the home ODI World Cup, in October-November.
