Indian Test captain Shubman Gill could find himself in a massive trouble as the ICC might punish him for violating a major code of conduct in the ongoing Leeds Test against England. Gill, who shone brightly with the bat and slammed a sensational century, could be fined following his actions that can be considered inappropriate by the apex cricketing body.
Why Could ICC Punish Shubman Gill?
Indian captain Shubman Gill had a dream start to the England tour, amassing a superb century on his maiden outing as Test skipper. However, Gill was spotted wearing a pair of black socks, which could prompt the ICC to impose a hefty penalty on him.
The players are allowed to wear only white, cream or light grey colour socks in Test cricket. Thus, Gill, who wore a black pair of socks, might be penalised, if found guilty of breaching article 19.45 of the ICC code of conduct related to the clothing and equipment regulations.
As a result, the ICC might fine the Indian captain 20 per cent of his match fees. However, if Gill proves it an unintentional error from his end, he could escape the sanction.
