Indian captain Shubman Gill was on the verge of getting sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the code of conduct related to clothing and equipment in Test matches. However, the stylish batter from Punjab avoided the penalty by rectifying the minor error during the first session of the ongoing Lord's Test.

Shubman Gill Avoids ICC Sanction In Lord's Test

After England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat first, players from both sides stepped onto the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground for the national anthems right before the start of play. India's national anthem was played first, with Shubman Gill and co. participating in the event.

Gill was spotted wearing a red vest under his jersey. According to article 19.44 of the ICC's clothing and equipment rules, the skins worn under the playing shirt mustn't be of any colour other than white. The ICC strictly monitors if players obey the rule and imposes a penalty on players if they are found guilty of violating it.

The ICC, in its rulebook, has strictly mentioned that even if the players wear an undergarment of a different colour, it shouldn't be visible to the naked eye.

Gill, who was caught wearing a red vest inside the playing shirt, closed the top-most button as soon as the Indian players entered the middle for the first session. Thus, his proactiveness saved the Indian captain from a potential sanction from the apex cricketing body.

Shubman Gill Could've Been In Trouble In 1st Test

Indian captain Shubman Gill could've been punished by the ICC for a similar offence as he wore a black pair of socks in the first Test at Headingley. However, a day after getting caught, Gill used a white pair of socks and escaped the punishment.
