In a significant development, England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat first in the third Test against India at Lord's. Meanwhile, Indian skipper Shubman Gill confirmed one change in the visitors' playing XI, with Prasidh Krishna missing out on selection.
Why Have India Excluded Prasidh Krishna From Playing XI?
Hailed for his ability to hit the deck at a rapid pace, Prasidh Krishna played the first two Test matches of the series. However, the fast bowler couldn't impress the Indian think tank, recording abysmal numbers at Headingley and Edgbaston.
Overall, Prasidh managed only six wickets across four innings at an average of 55.17 and a strike rate of 62. More importantly, he conceded 331 runs at a poor economy of 5.34, forcing India to leave him out upon Jasprit Bumrah's return.
Bumrah, who missed the second Test due to workload management, was reported to make his comeback at Lord's. Thus, with Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep performing admirably, India had to drop Prasidh to accommodate Bumrah in their lineup.
This is the only change in India's playing XI, as Karun Nair and Nitish Kumar Reddy have got another opportunity to prove their mettle with the bat. At toss, skipper Shubman Gill also stated that the visitors would've anyway wanted to bowl and make the most of the moisture on the wicket.
Talking about England, the hosts have also made one change, replacing Josh Tongue with ace speedster Jofra Archer.
