Shubman Gill isn’t just making headlines with his batting brilliance on the field; he’s creating waves off the field, too. Just as his outstanding over-boundaries perfectly land on the stands, his witty answers in the press conferences are now adding the same excitement among the fans.
Just not the fans, even former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also enjoyed Gill’s sharp replies in the press conference. Ashwin praised how Gill stays true to himself while gracefully handling off-field pressure.
Ashwin Applauds Gill’s Sharp Sense Of Humour In Press Conferences
After Shubman Gill took Team India’s charge in the longest format, he touched new heights on the field. But it’s his off-field charm at press conferences that’s winning hearts. From his first press conference as Test captain to the recent one, his sharp and witty replies sparked attention.
As the fans can’t get over his press conference, former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin praised Gill’s natural aura. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin admired Gill’s effortless flair, saying he’s loving how Gill is staying true in such situations.
“Shubman has a natural flair. I was watching his press conference, and I immediately found that he is not putting on a show. He is talking like who he is. He is leading the team according to his natural self and skills,” Ashwin said.
Gill Strikes Back To Tackle Overseas Media Tactics With Composure
As the overseas conditions always challenge the touring captain, the overseas media’s unwanted yorkers make it tougher. Before the second Test, an English journalist tried to corner Gill over India’s Edgbaston record, but his calm reply after the win stole the show. Praising his composure, Ravichandran Ashwin applauded Gill’s cool head in tricky situations.
“In overseas tours, the media tries to target the captain because if you bring the captain down, it becomes easy to bring the team down. You can get them to fall like nine pins if you go after the captain,” he said.
“Don't take it out of context, but a lot of players are coached about what to say and what to do. That doesn't seem to be the case with Shubman Gill. He looks like a man who is doing what he believes in,” he added.
With a series hanging on a 1-1 margin, India and England are set to face each other at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground on July 10. The cricket world is set for another five days of marathon red-ball thrills.
