Not many people know that Shreyas Iyer, the Punjab Kings captain played the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match Vs Rajasthan Royals with a gruesome injury. The skipper injured his index finger during training session on Saturday but came out to bat when the team looked in dire need of a rebuild.

Iyer injured; plays RR game in pain

In the match between PBKS and RR, Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first. The team lost three quick wickets with Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya and Mitch Owen departing in quick successions. Many expected Iyer to came out to bat at number 3, but he came out to bat at 4 and the reason was his index finger injury.

As per Sahil Malhotra of TOI, The PBKS captain's injury looked serious, but he didn't give a second thought of opting out of the game. The injury affected his batting against RR as he scored 30 off 25 balls and looked a bit scratchy as he looked in some discomfort when going for the big shots. He was dismissed by Riyan Parag as Iyer stitched a crucial partnership with Nehal Wadhera.

PBKS dominates RR bowlers

Iyer elected to bat first and Rajasthan bowlers actually had a brilliant start as they dismissed three early wickets to push PBKS on the back-foot.

However, Shreyas, alongside Nehal Wadhera resurrected the innings as the left-handed Wadhera blasted a quick-fire 70 off 37, and was amply supported by Shashank Singh, who at the time of writing is getting closer to his fifty-run mark and PBKS is eyeing the 200-run mark.

Iyer goes off the field

After his scratchy knock, Punjab's middle order batters took the score to 219/5. When RR came out to bat, Iyer was not there to lead the side as Shashank Singh was made the stand-in captain.
