Pakistan cricket has seen many great match-winners in T20Is, but few have risen as quickly as left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi. The 25-year-old speedster added another feather to his cap by going past Babar Azam in the list of Pakistan players with the most player of the match awards in T20Is.
He received this award after a stellar all-round performance against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash. Afridi scored a crucial 19 off 13 balls with the bat and picked 3 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs bowled in the second inning.
Shaheen Afridi wins his 10th POTM award for Pakistan
His heroics propelled Pakistan to an 11-run close win and advanced them into the final of the Asia Cup 2025, where they’ll meet India. That being said, Shaheen Afridi was rewarded for his notable efforts.
He received the player of the match award, marking the 10th accolade of his T20I career. With 10 trophies, Afridi has overtaken Babar Azam, who previously won 9 POTM awards.
No. of POTM awards | Players |
12 | Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan |
11 | Mohammad Hafeez, Shahid Afridi |
10 | Shaheen Afridi |
9 | Babar Azam |
7 | Umar Akmal |
6 | Shoaib Malik |
At the very top of the list are Mohammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan, both with 12 awards each. Just behind them sit veterans Mohammad Hafeez and Shahid Afridi with 11 awards each.
Shaheen Afridi is now closing in on this elite group. With his career still in full flow, there’s every chance he could soon join or even surpass Rizwan and Shadab at the top of the charts.
Pakistan will meet India in the high-voltage Asia Cup final
It’s time for round 3 of the India vs Pakistan rivalry in the 2025 Asia Cup, as the two arch-rivals are set to meet in the final of the tournament scheduled on Sunday, September 28, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
India have already beaten Pakistan twice in the Asia Cup 2025 before and will certainly start as favourites given their unbeaten run so far. This will also be the first time in Asia Cup history that India and Pakistan will compete in the final.
